[Sagamore Online] State of Sagamore Online Video Conference

Hi everybody, I am new to the team so I really need to learn more before providing advise.

Maybe once the new site is done that can be decided, but if there are TONS of pages that should be linked, it might be good to decide beforehand, to avoid a LOT of extra work.

Once the NEW SITE is live with all functions, features, FAQs, Feedback forms, videos, photos, surveys, maybe ecommerce (very easy to set up) and other features, I as a parent (trying to just take on the Parent hat here), I would most likely prefer the PTA site. As far as the PTA deciding on which should be the “main site”: The main benefits of having the PTA site as main site would be that the school/PTA will

* be able to control the information,

*         control the design

*         control branding

*         control tagline

*         control updates and feeds

* handle security and secure information

*         provide more features

* able to SEO the site to drive traffic

* able to get feedback from visitors

* overall provide a better user experience (UX)

Also you are in control of any private information and can host the site with a SSL certificate and add other security measures for possible private information. In addition, we can get direct feedback from visitors via e.g. webengage.com or other smart feedback plugin that will be missed if people go to the Dekalb site.

This is SCARY, I AGREE, so thanks for sharing: <http://www.eschoolview.com/OpenSource.aspx> http://www.eschoolview.com/OpenSource.aspx

If we put the current website on a WordPress theme with latest version of WordPress, put it on a “Virtual Private Server” and add SSL on top, that will be incredibly much better than open source code.

Also, having the PTA domain as MAIN domain together with branded emails, cost about $5.00/month for 100 different email addresses, that would be FirstName.LastName at sagamorehillspta. <mailto:FirstName.LastName at sagamorehillspta.com> org or FirstName at sagamorehillspta.org <mailto:FirstName at sagamorehillspta.org> or similar. Just brings out the brand better than Julie_A_Martin at fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us <mailto:Julie_A_Martin at fc.dekalb.k12.ga.us> . This email format is just a mess. Try to give that away on a party without paper/pen or smartphone handy. Just using an _ underscore was something that most companies stopped doing 15 years ago makes it feel very dated. And it brings NO branding to the table, just a confusing government entity. Also giving away your emails over the phone…so much easier FirstName at sagamorehillspta.org <mailto:FirstName at sagamorehillspta.org> .

That is just my humble POV on that.

I am more than happy to get together, the suggested video conference, do a GoTo meeting or phone meeting and discuss the new site and its requirements – after the video conference tomorrow evening.

I already know you want it RESPONSIVE and I am sure Dave has heard that too and it seemed that Dave and I think very much along the same lines so I think he and I can be a very productive web-team, together with all other content-owners.

But to build it right from the beginning, having a meeting, getting down a specification requiremnets document/list, is very important.

Until the new site is live, we can use this site for all mobile devices.

I think the fee is: $107.40/year. Just using a mobile “temporary platform”.

Not sure if I can get in in my account, but if that is possible, then it would only be $6.00/month.

http://preview.mba.ms/compare/sagamorehillspta - This is now a live and working dummy, but to make it work, I need to post a script in the global header of the sagamorehillspta.com site.

If I just get the login to the site, I can sponsor the mobile version for a few months free of charge, but do not want to get stuck with the bill forever. MANY of Sagamore Hills parents use mobile devices to access websites for sure, including sagamorehillspta.org

Should we go back to the PTA site being the main site for the school and the Dekalb site as a home base with a redirect to the PTA site?

Instead of sharing our perspectives on the state of Sagamore online right then and there, we agreed it'd be wise to do it in a recorded video conference instead. That way, more people can easily participate in the discussion, and the discussion can be watched live or later by anyone interested.
